Sony releases PSP “Minis” and Gran Turismo Give Away

Bite-sized downloadable games coming in October.

By Steve Watts, 08/18/2009
UPDATE - PocketGamer reports that Minis will be priced at 1, 2, and 5 Euros. The games will probably be priced similarly at $1, $2, and $5, but we have no official confirmation of that.

ORIGINAL STORY - The PSP Go is widely seen as Sony’s answer to the iPhone, and today’s announcement at the company’s GamesCom press conference seems to add even more reason to think so. Sony announced “Minis,” small games with a 100MB limit that will (presumably) cost less than full-featured downloadable titles. Sony showed Tetris and Fieldrunners as two examples, and stated that 15 Minis will launch alongside the PSP Go on October 1. 50 more titles are expected before the end of 2009. This is no doubt to combat the iPhone’s popular App Store, which sees tons of small games hit every day thanks to its open development platform.

As an added incentive to buy a PSP Go, Sony also announced that registering your system between October 1 and 10 will earn a free download of Gran Turismo PSP.
